Liguria SEAstem

GOAL

Create a virtuous path that accompanies citizens, tourists and stakeholders toward a sustainable use of Ligurian marine resources, promoting a (re)discovery of the territory under the banner of the sea and sustainability.

A project made possible thanks to the support of
Nando and Elsa Peretti Foundation

We have created a territorial SEAstem involving restaurants, tour operators and outdoor entities, promoting the application of sustainable practices in the areas of responsible dolphin spotting, sustainable fishing and tourism, and enhancement of Marine Protected Areas, to generate the change our Planet needs.

Guides to Ligurian Poor Fish

The Guides to Ligurian Poor Fish aim to be a tool at the service of consumers and restaurateurs who want to make sustainable choices related to the consumption of fish resources, support small local artisanal realities, respect seasonality, and preserve local gastronomic culture.

Responsible dolphin sighting

We raise awareness of adopting good rules for responsible dolphin sightings in Ligurian waters. To facilitate the dissemination of the message, we have created a video with basic rules of behavior for making a low-impact sighting.

Responsible tourism

The enhancement of the territory, its natural heritage, and areas that aim to safeguard it starts with community involvement. Therefore, we have created several dissemination materials with tips for experiencing marine and coastal outdoor activities in a sustainable way and a guide for being a responsible tourist.

Discovering the Ligurian Sea

Raising awareness among the new generations through educational paths is part of our mission. For this reason, we have created an educational kit for Ligurian elementary school teachers, aimed at disseminating the main themes of the project and teaching young children respect for the sea around them.

Enhancement of Marine Protected Areas

Liguria’s waters are home to three Marine Protected Areas and numerous Nature Reserves.
The entire long coastline is home to a variety of endemic Mediterranean species threatened by climate change, overfishing and pollution, making conservation, research and awareness measures mandatory.
